The question of what the Browns should do with Donte Stallworth is going to come up in the very near future. Plenty of people will say the team should release him.
And they should - but only if it’s because he performed inadequately last year while struggling through injuries.
For me, the question is a simple one: does the crime and the jail sentence have an impact on Stallworth’s ability to be a WR for the Cleveland Browns. The NFL will suspend him, of course, but the Browns won’t have to pay him for those games. It seems like Stallworth will be able to serve the 30 day sentence before training camp. Driving a car is not required to run routes, block, and catch a leather ball on a large field made of grass.
The Browns’ new regime will have to decide if a) they believe Stallworth can contribute as a WR and if b) the offense can handle the disruption caused by him not being on the field for (hypothetically) 8 games while trying to learn an entirely new system - which, of course, is no different than if he was missing those games due to injury. *M*
