Pluto on recently acquired pitcher Connor Graham (in a deal with the Rockies for Rafael Betancourt):
“While Graham has been a starter in Class A, his 95-mph fastball and size (6-7, 235 pounds) seem to make him a bullpen guy.”
This is one of the most non-sensical things I’ve ever read. Why does a guy with a 95MPH fastball and a big body have to be a reliever?
Randy Johnson is 6’10”.
Roger Clemens is 6’4” and 220 pounds…so I guess three inches and fifteen pounds are the difference between a starter and a reliever?
Actually, when I look up Graham, he’s listed at 6’6” and 230 pounds anyway.
Looking at his stats, you can see that Graham did indeed walk too many people in Single A - but last season he only gave up three home runs in 147 innings pitched for .2HR/9INN - which is better than Josh Beckett when he was pitching in Single A ball.
Last I checked, Beckett was a pretty good starting pitcher.
Also, I wrote this when I was drinking and playing Grand Theft Auto IV.
