Been thinking tonight, needed to get these items into the real world
NickNames (Or Lack of Them)
I had a discussion today with Mikey and Tim’s Grandma and Grandpa - and they were lamenting the fact that kids today don’t have nicknames like they did when they were growing up. They sighted examples of the kid down the street with “big ears”, they called him “Dopey” like the dwarf in Snow White. (ha ha - they claim no one got offended by this) Grandpa himself had a nickname from the time he was a little kid - it’s “Coke”. No, it’s not what you think — he loved “Cocoa Malt” when he was little. It was a chocolate syrup flavored drink his Mom mixed up for them.
Anyway, once again, JMID breaks new ground because we’ve brought back the nickname - Alpha Dog, Apocalypse Now, etc. So, what’s old is new — or whatever. I’m sure there will be more nicknames developed over time which will enable readers of this blog to have an entire conversation about Cleveland sports teams and no one else will understand who we are talking about — unless they read this stuff. Sort of like pig-latin - if that means anything to you.
Browns
Wow - they suck
Indians
Are actually much more interesting to watch now, I think. They are playing with enthusiasm. Getting good pitching, and they actually have their best people playing shortstop and 2nd base. When they bring in relief pitching, they usually have good (young) options. They beat the Twins today - so, theyve won the last five series against the lousy Central Division leading teams.
Cavs
Are building a very good team for another run at it. I’m excited, training camp can’t get here fast enough. LBJ has rested this year more than any other year since he got involved in the Olympic team - now he’s back in the gym working on his game. That’s a very good thing.
