Do We Really Think Mangini Cares?

Posted a lot of links today, but I like to think it’s our commentary that makes JMID interesting reading. In this case, it’s my reaction to the headline on Bud Shaw’s column:

“Mangini’s Patience With QB Competition Wearing Thin With Fans”

I’ve been informed in the past that the writers who write the columns don’t write the headlines, so I’ll withhold judgment on Mr. Shaw himself while I go and read the column…

…and now that I’ve done that, this whole issue of Mangini needing to name a QB at this very moment because it’s almost September, that seems to be out there in the ether, perpetuated by fans and reporters…well, I could pontificate on possible explanations for why this is illogical or logical (I tend to think it stems from humanity’s natural fear of the unknown and is therefore emotionally based and illogical), but whatever I think really doesn’t f’ing matter.

Mangini doesn’t care what fans think. He doesn’t care what reporters think. He doesn’t care what any of us think, especially in the pre-season. And he really doesn’t care what we feel.

Mangini’s going to do whatever he believes will translate into the team winning football games this season first but also in the future. That is, after all, the only way he keeps his job. If he wants to let this QB competition play out until one hour before the first snap of week one, then allow him to do it. If he needs that time to determine who “the guy” is, well, then he should take it.

However, if the non-decision is a product of neither DA or BQE (I always want to add an ‘e’, I think because of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway) being “the guy” then…uh, um, uh huh, yeah.

We’re all screwed. More than Rick Pitino who, because of a sex scandal, was forced to see himself on the news the same day that Ted Kennedy died  when really, we should all be talking about more important things like the economy and crucial stuff such as basketball.
