Vote for Jhonny Peralta

I got this email from the Indians today

As an Indians fan, it’s a chance you won’t want to miss.

Hometown hero Jhonny Peralta is one of 30 nominees for the
2009 Roberto Clemente Award presented by Chevy. Honoring the legacy of baseball’s most recognized humanitarians.

Here’s your chance to recognize Jhonny for his efforts on and off the field, sharing Chevy’s commitment to improving our communities. Just for voting, you could win

·    A VIP trip for 4 to the World Series

·    Game tickets, airfare & lodging

·    Participation in the pregame Clemente ceremony

·    A chance to meet the Award winner and the Clemente family

We thank you for participating in this important award and invite you to see our own award-winning roster of cars, trucks, crossovers and SUVs.

At first, I thought it was some kind of joke from Mikey and Timbo.  Then, as I read the message. I realized this wasn’t a joke — but some kind of “fact is stranger than fiction” moment.

There is so much I could say about this message, let me mention just a few of them:

“it’s a chance you won’t want to miss”  — Why not?

“Hometown hero Jhonny Peralta” — Maybe in his hometown of Santiago, Dominican Republic, but not in C-Town.  He heard the boo birds in the 6th inning tonight.

“Here’s your chance to recognize Jhonny for his efforts on and off the field” - everyone who reads this site knows I don’t think Jhonny is very good — so, he’s not getting my vote for his efforts on the field.  Plus, I have never heard one story about him doing any charity work or going to a hospital - nothing.  Off the field efforts, I got nothing!

The rest of the email talks about all the things I can win if I vote for him.  Like they know no one will bother, but wait, I can win a prize if I vote, oh yeah — now I remember, Jhonny is a great humanitarian.  yeah - sure

So, I didn’t vote for Jhonny — my guess is few people will.  Roberto Clemente — who was a great humanitarian — would roll over in his grave if Mr. Peralta won.

I wouldn’t want to disturb the dead, I’m deleting the message
