Mike Lombardi of nationalfootballpost.com wrote the following on Monday:
“I know [QB A] was bad, but who can make this offense more explosive? Take away [WR A] and the [Name of Team] don’t have a playmaker at tight end or wideout. They rely on the big play, and when the big play doesn’t happen, they struggle. [QB A] is never going to be a consistent passer. He just is not making the big play now, and the lack of a big play magnifies the deficiencies on offense.”
Which players and what team would you guess he’s referring to?
If you guessed the Browns, you’d be wrong - it’s the Carolina Panthers. QB A is Jake Delhomme and WR A is Steve Smith, but I think the statements apply to the Browns, Brady Quinn, and Braylon Edwards.
This was the best argument to go with D.A. over Quinn, in my opinion - if Quinn can’t make the big play to Edwards, the Browns offense will continue to be anemic. And if Quinn isn’t even Adequinn and continues to turn the ball over, then this team will be in real danger of losing between 12 and 16 games.
Minnesota was just one game. Let’s see what happens against the Broncos on Sunday.
