Even though it was a long time ago, I still remember quotes from my high school football coach - Wayne Diederich - who’s in the Elyria Sports Hall of Fame. He had a profound, positive affect on my life.
Anyway, one of his favorite comments went something like this; You either get better or you get worse every week - but, you never stay the same.
Our goal, as individual players and as a team, was to get better each week.
Well, I think the Browns got worse this week. I really wanted to see some positive results, some hope that we were getting a little bit better. I realize that we don’t have much talent, the Packers are really good, and we aren’t very good.
However, today the offense looked lost, the defense looked uninterested, and special teams were just average (barely made that chip shot field goal). There’s a real chance that some (or all) of the last four home games might not sell out, so they will be blacked out locally.
I can’t blame the fans. Who wants to watch a team that hasn’t scored a touchdown in weeks fail to get into the end zone from inside the three yard line on two first and goal situations.
Thank God, my high school team was pretty good. But, if Coach Diederich was standing at the front of the Brown’s tonight, he’d have to tell them that they didn’t get better, they got worse since their last game.
Cause you never stay the same.
