Well, at least for now, PAD has had his day in court and survived. I’m not sure what he said or how he said it, but he has earned another day within the pack.
Now that Walrus Dog has taken control, he has decided to let PAD run with the rest of the dogs, at least for a while. But, make no mistake about it, PAD was completely neutered in the process. He may have survived, but his position in the pack has been greatly diminished.
Can he adapt and do an effective job without his family jewels intact? Can he just coach and let other people pick the players and tell him what to do? I guess time will tell us the answer to those questions.
I would have loved to be a fly on the wall during their conversation - in fact, I would have paid money to hear what was said. But, since I wasn’t and I didn’t, I can only speculate. I’ll use a real life example:
Years ago, our family pet (Jordan) was an 80 pound yellow lab - he was a great pet. Since he was a pretty big dog, he intimidated a lot of people and other dogs as well. M & T’s Uncle Tom had a german shepperd (Ely - pronounced “E” Lee) that weighed about 100 pounds - he was a great pet too.
Jordan was the alpha dog in his little circle, until the day he met Ely — who promptly knocked Jordan over on his back, then stood over him daring Jordan to make a move. He never really hurt Jordan, but it was pretty obvious to me — and more importantly to Jordan — that Ely could do major damage pretty quickly should he choose to do so.
After that initial meeting, every time Jordan got close to Elly, Jordan would quickly give ground and somehow end up on his back again, staring up at the rather imposing figure of Elly. Elly would stand over or near him, just hoping that Jordan would do or bark something that would give him an excuse to rip his heart out. Fortunately, that never happened.
In this story, PAD is Jordan — Walrus Dog is Ely. So, I imagine that during their initial meeting, PAD got knocked down by Walrus Dog, then got the Ely “stare down” just daring him to make a move.
Now, everytime he gets near WD, Mangini will just have to “assume the position”, lay on his back and not give the big Walrus Dog an excuse to attack him.
So, Mangini might have had his day, but Ely’s spirit will always be lurking nearby. He might have made it through day #1, we’ll see how it goes from here.
Holla
