Here’s a link to Dave Berri’s mid-season report on player productivity, based on his measure of Wins Produced. A couple quick hits, which are also in the article / table if you feel like reading it.
Bron has produced more wins than any other player in the NBA so far this season. His Wins Produced Per 48 Minutes (WP48) rating is .420. Since Bron has played 1582 minutes, he’s produced 13.8 wins.
Last season Bron finished with a WP48 of .436.
Mo (.091), Shaq (.070), Glitch (.047), and Anthony Parker (.089) have all been below average so far (.100 is average). That’s right, by the WP48 measure, 4 of the Cavs 5 starters are producing at a below average rate.
Andre Iguodala is the most productive shooting guard in the NBA: .234 WP48 at 1642 minutes = 8 wins.
Troy Murphy’s WP48 is .315
Antawn Jamison’s WP48 is .152
Corey Maggette’s WP48 is .188
Marcus Camby’s WP48 is .448
Ben Wallace’s WP48 is .274
David West’s WP48 is .091
It should go without saying that these stats aren’t the be all end all, but they are a guide. I’m most interested in the advanced stats that line up across different measures. For example, when WP48 says Iguodala is a beast and Adjusted +/- says the same thing, then I think that’s something we have to pay more attention to.
This raises some potentially interesting questions about Mo Williams, as well, but I’ll save that for another day.
