We all know the winner to the ABJJ contest is Antawn Jamison — and more specifically, the Cavs, I hope. None to soon, I might add.
After watching Glitch work his magic last night, I can’t believe that Jamison won’t be taking a lot of his minutes very quickly. JJ’s stats weren’t good and my eyes told me that he was erratic, clumsy, and not paying attention. (How many times have you seen Andy stop and yell at him during a game??)
If the Cavs could make free throws, his play probably wouldn’t be under the microscope so much this morning. However, it appears that poor free throw shooting is going to continue to be a problem for this team — so, we need to concentrate on other aspects of our game, specifically turnovers.
JJ cost us at least three last night by not catching passes that an average NBA player should easily handle. He cost us at least two or three rebounds — that turned into points for the Nuggest too (Rebounds he should have gotten which turned into offensive rebounds for the Nuggets, and easy baskets).
I remember one play in particular when JJ mishandled a pass which turned into a steal and a Billups three — as I said to Mike, there’s a 5 point spread (2 he didn’t make, 3 Cavs gave up) in like 5 seconds.
So, the ABJJ Sweepstakes is over — whether you like Jaminson or not — it’s time to put the winner out there and compare his magic to what JJ displays on a regular basis. We know Jamison is much better at protecting the ball (less turnovers) and we’re pretty confident that he can catch passes too. His free throw shooting isn’t great (oh boy), about 73% for his career but — yes, it’s still better than JJ.
Oh, and last but not least, although he’s not a great shooter, Jamison will actually shoot the ball when he has an open jump shot — another of JJ’s issues.
So, let’s run that puppy out there and see how he does. I’ll be watching tonight and over the next several games to see how minutes get distributed between JJ and Jamison (we need a nickname for him). Hopefully, Mike Brown’s new rotation will be better, too — but, that’s another story for another post.
Holla at Jamison — or should we say Holla for Jamison (its hard to adjust to having him play for the Cavs)
